Jim Olson and Tom Kundig Honored With FCARM Medal

2023/11/30

Olson Kundig is pleased to announce that principal/founder Jim Olson, FAIA, and principal/owner & founder Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, have been honored with the 2023 FCARM Medal. This annual award is presented by the Federación de Colegios de Arquitectos de la República Mexicana (Federation of Architects’ Colleges of the Mexican Republic), the leading architectural organization in Mexico, to non-Mexican architects in acknowledgement of the recipients’ achievements and contributions to the profession throughout their careers.

“My sincerest thanks to AIA International and FCARM,” Jim shared. “This award is especially meaningful to us due to our high regard for Mexico’s tradition of excellence in modern design.”

“I could not be more thrilled to receive an award from such an outstanding organization,” Tom added. “There is incredible, inspirational architecture embedded in the history and contemporary culture of Mexico—to be recognized by the caliber of architect that FCARM represents is an unbelievable honor.”

In addition to receiving the 2023 FCARM Medal, Jim and Tom were featured speakers at the AIA International Congress in Mexico City earlier this month. Themed around “Memories and Visions,” the annual conference—hosted in Latin America for the first time—united architects and thought leaders from AIA chapters across the globe. Jim and Tom’s keynote presentation, titled “Designing a Legacy: The Origins & Evolutions of Olson Kundig,” traced the enduring impact of their early residential work and discussed the foundational principles that have contributed to the firm’s longevity.
