Kirsten Ring Murray at Modernism Week 2017

2017/01/04

On Friday, February 24 from 1 – 2pm, principal and owner, Kirsten Ring Murray, will present at Modernism Week 2017. Taking place in Palm Springs ─ one of the most concentrated collections of regionally inspired midcentury modern architecture in the country ─ Modernism Week offers visitors the opportunity to tour iconic works by legendary architects, including Albert Frey and Richard Neutra. In addition to tours, Modernism Week also hosts a selection of lectures and talks by prominent industry thought leaders.

“From Desert to Rainforest – Influences of Palm Springs on Pacific Northwest Modernism” will be an immersive exploration of the power, history, and influence of modernism, paying particular attention to how these seminal works and school of thought inspired the development of a parallel form of regional modernism in the Pacific Northwest. Kristen will present comparative work from Northwest masters such as Paul Hayden Kirk and Paul Thiry who, in turn, inspired a generation of contemporary modernists who are practicing today. Kirsten’s talk will also explore how this legacy, rooted in Palm Springs, continues to shape the collective work of Olson Kundig as a practice, as well as Kirsten’s own design work across a range of project types.
