Olson Kundig

In late July, Olson Kundig principal and founder Jim Olson was a featured guest on the Inspired Design podcast. Hosted by Gina Colucci, Inspired Design is a weekly podcast from the Seattle Design Center that features interviews with creatives who live and work in the Pacific Northwest.

To record the episode, Gina and her team joined Jim at Cabin at Longbranch to tour the home and surrounding landscape. Jim explored the various phases of renovation and expansion at the cabin, and the ways this project influenced and impacted his work elsewhere in the Puget Sound region and around the world.

“This little house was intended to be a place to just sit and be part of the natural world, and it still is that way, really,” Jim shared. “I think, in a sense, my whole philosophy of being an architect is integrating life with nature as much as possible. That was what this house was all about, and I haven’t really changed my mind on that – especially in today’s world, I’m just more and more adamant about working with nature as much as we can.”
