2021/09/23

Earlier this month, Olson Kundig principal and founder Jim Olson was a featured guest on the US Modernist Radio podcast. Hosted by George Smart, US Modernist Radio releases weekly episodes featuring interviews with architects, owners, lovers and haters of Modernist architecture.

During their conversation, Jim reflected on his earliest design commissions, sharing stories from projects like Earth House, as well as a home designed for a family friend and a unique floating home on Seattle’s Lake Union. He shared insights into one of his most well-known projects, Cabin at Longbranch, which began as a bunkhouse for teenagers and has continued to evolve as the size and needs of his family changed. Jim also discussed his experience as an architect-developer of the Pike & Virginia Building, his ongoing work designing homes for major art collectors and more.

The episode also featured musical guest Erin Boheme and closing thoughts from architect Frank Harmon. US Modernist Radio is available through a variety of streaming platforms, including Apple Podcasts.
