Alan Maskin & Jerry Garcia Discuss Firm Culture on Monograph’s Best Practice

On April 22, Olson Kundig principal and owner Alan Maskin and principal Jerry Garcia joined Best Practice, an ongoing webinar series hosted by Monograph. In this virtual fireside chat, Alan and Jerry spoke about the established rituals and internal initiatives that contribute to the firm’s strong internal culture of design and engagement.
During their conversation, Alan and Jerry discussed long-standing traditions, from the Speaker Series, which invites non-architects to share their work and creative practice with staff, to Thursday evening Crits, a dedicated forum for design critique and sharing. Each shared stories of ways the firm culture has evolved since they joined Olson Kundig, and ways the firm has continued to host activities during the global pandemic when gathering in office common spaces was not an option. Alan and Jerry also took questions from the audience, and offered insight and advice to other designers seeking to impact the culture of their own firms.
