Olson Kundig Announces Leadership Promotions

Olson Kundig is pleased to announce several leadership promotions across the firm: Clay Anderson has been promoted to Principal; David Mann has been named Director of Chicago Office; Laura Bartunek, Christine Burkland, Simon Clews, Meghan Griswold, Allison Johnson, Jesse Kingsley, and Brian Walters have been promoted to Associate Principal; and additional team members have been promoted to Senior Associate and Associate levels. These promotions recognize the impact of each individual’s project leadership and contributions to Olson Kundig’s internal culture, as well as their advancement of the firm’s diverse portfolio of work around the world.

Clay Anderson (Principal) has experience spanning single- and multi-family residential, hospitality, commercial, and cultural projects around the world. He is interested in the intersection of craft and material innovation, and has been instrumental in the development of many of the firm’s public design installations, including ICECUBE and Homebase.

David Mann, AIA, LEED AP (Director) has been a practicing architect for over 30 years and has experience across a range of project types with a focus on cultural, civic, and higher education work. Community connectivity is a major priority for David; he has served as the chair of Oak Park Plan Commission for nine years, as well as mentoring students in the Virginia Tech Chicago Studio.

Laura Bartunek (Associate Principal) is known for her passion for imaginative and exploratory architecture, which informs her work on the firm’s cultural and residential projects. Her process consistently embraces a fascination with narrative landscapes – both real and imagined, micro and macro – as a point of departure for design investigations.

Christine Burkland (Associate Principal) is a frequent collaborator with principal/founder Jim Olson, often developing custom furniture and lighting designs that extend the architectural vision from a building’s form to its inner materiality and texture. She has worked across a range of market sectors, including hospitality, mixed-use and higher education, with a focus on residential interior design.

Simon Clews (Associate Principal) originally came to Olson Kundig through the firm’s International Internship Program and has risen through the ranks as a project architect and project manager. While his experience is broad, his passion and focus has been custom single-family residential design, including expanding the firm’s residential portfolio in Australia and New Zealand.

Meghan Griswold, AIA (Associate Principal) has a wide range of experience working on high-end, award-winning residential projects that enhance connections between built and natural spaces. Meghan enjoys the holistic design process from concept to completion, and seeks to create spaces that seamlessly blend with the environment through her focus on wood construction and timeless building materials.

Allison Johnson, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C (Associate Principal) works across a broad range of project types including hospitality, residential, cultural, civic landscape, mixed-use development, high-rise towers, and historic preservation. An AIA Medal of Excellence recipient, Allison’s deep understanding of context and natural site integration combined with technology pushes the boundaries of her practice.

Jesse Kingsley (Associate Principal) specializes in single-family residential projects at a variety of scales, able to elegantly adjust his processes and approach to suit everything from large, complex art homes to small, scrappy remodels. Jesse fosters a deeply collaborative approach on his projects, building relationships with clients and teams to deliver homes that capture each project’s unique vision.

Brian Walters, AIA, LEED AP (Associate Principal) works on a variety of project types and scales, including residential, hospitality, workplace, and mixed-use, and has served as Design Representative and co-chair of Seattle’s Design Review Board. On each project, Brian collaborates with clients and builders to unify projects with their contexts and connect users with each other and place.
