Amanda Chenoweth

Principal / Director of Interiors

Amanda Chenoweth joined Olson Kundig’s Interiors Studio in 2016 and was elevated to Principal in 2022. Trained as an architect, Amanda’s experience working with small firms highlighted the importance of creating architecture and interiors in tandem, each in dialogue with the other. This holistic attention to design development informs her approach to all of her projects, which span single family homes to larger hospitality and multi-family developments.

Amanda designs through a storytelling lens, creating richly textured, evocative and livable spaces that center authentic materials and celebrate craft. Drawing inspiration from the natural environment as well as clients’ unique tastes and needs, she enjoys the collaborative journey of each project and the interesting challenges that arise along the way. Deeply rooted in research and discovery, Amanda is constantly building new relationships with makers and emerging artists. This intentional approach to sourcing broadens design opportunities, informed by each project’s guiding narrative.

While Amanda works on projects around the world, she lives in Hawaii and spearheads the firm’s outpost there. This proximity to Olson Kundig’s ongoing projects across the Hawaiian Islands allows her to build and strengthen relationships with local builders and craftspeople, fostering deeper connections within local cultures and communities. “The landscape in Hawaii is incredibly inspiring to my work,” Amanda shares. “There’s also a deliberate mindset here to minimize waste and thoughtfully repurpose materials, which in turn pushes you to think about your own actions and how to reduce the impact of design decisions.”
