Olson Kundig Receives Firm and Project Awards in Architizer A+ Program

Olson Kundig is excited to share that we have been named Best Large Firm by the 2025 Architizer A+ Awards. 8899 Beverly Boulevard (led by design principals Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, and Kirsten Ring Murray, FAIA) has also won the Residential Adaptive Reuse Project Category. The Architizer A+ Awards program celebrates the best architecture, spaces, products, and innovations from across the globe.

Olson Kundig is a collaborative global design practice whose work expands the context of built and natural landscapes. Founded in 1966 on the edge of the Pacific Rim, the firm embraces an outsider’s perspective. Its extensive portfolio, ranging from “huts to high rises,” reflects design for people, place, and experience, balancing rational and intuitive thinking. Olson Kundig’s body of work unites architecture and design with nature, culture, and art, from bold concepts to the finest details. With offices in Seattle, New York City, and Chicago, the firm offers integrated services in architecture, interior design, exhibit design, urban design, planning, and landscape design.

“It’s an honor for Olson Kundig to be recognized as the Best Large Firm by the Architizer A+ Awards,” shares Tom. “Our firm has always embraced the unexpected, and we thrive in the creative tension between collaboration and autonomy, function and poetry. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished alongside our team members whose talent and dedication continue to push our work and culture forward.”

8899 Beverly Boulevard converts a mid-century office building into a new residential program, reflecting a contemporary design approach in dialogue with historic architecture. Rather than demolishing the existing building—designed by Richard Dorman and built in 1964 as the Los Angeles International Design Center—the project preserves its embodied energy and neighborhood significance through reuse. Aspects of the existing façade, concrete megastructure, and distinctive original balconies were retained, with the architectural language of old and new clearly expressed. The updated design honors the character and integrity of the original building while responding to the new use and needs of the surrounding community, adding housing density and improving connections to the pedestrian-oriented neighborhood.

“We’re so proud to have 8899 Beverly Boulevard recognized by the Architizer A+ Awards program,” says Kirsten. “This project was an opportunity to rethink how an existing structure could retain its original mid-century character while thoughtfully responding to both the scale of the city and the individual in a contemporary way. I’m grateful to our amazing client and project partners who were essential in successfully weaving the building into the vibrant, evolving context of West Hollywood.”
