Six Senses Residences Grand Bahama

Freeport, Grand Bahama

The new branded residences at Six Senses Residences Grand Bahama will feature 10 beachfront and 18 canal-front homes. Designed as a series of pavilions that sit lightly within the landscape, each home includes dedicated space for a range of living, sleeping and gathering, as well as three to six bedrooms. The homes’ softly curved roofs echo the undulating movement of the waves and restored dunes that surround the new community. Their materiality, including weathered wood, deliberately allows the architecture to recede instead of competing with the surrounding natural beauty, further linking the residences to the landscape.

Each residence is set within lush gardens, floating above the dunes and oriented toward the ocean. You arrive via a journey through nature to an autocourt and private entry garden before ascending to the front door. Here, a screen-enclosed breezeway links to the home’s main public spaces in one direction and the more private areas to the other. Views across a central courtyard and through the main living space immediately establish the home’s visual connection to the water.

Open, informal kitchen, dining, and living spaces at the rear of the home spill onto a generous terrace, blurring boundaries between interior and exterior. These outdoor living spaces frame additional flexible areas for cooking and dining, as well as an infinity edge pool that blends into the horizon line and water beyond. Wide roof overhangs provide shade, ensuring the outdoor living zones remain comfortable throughout the heat of the day.

The color of the ocean in Grand Bahama—the surreal, brilliant turquoises and blues—is unlike anywhere else. The private residences at Six Senses Grand Bahama seek to celebrate the sea’s unique natural condition, whether placed on the beach or along canals that weave through the island. Here, the homes act as an armature for connecting to nature, the horizon line, and the ever-changing colors of the ocean. Kevin M. Kudo-King, AIA, LEED AP
