Wonderland: Shaking Up Reality at [storefront] Olson Kundig

Seattle, Washington

Installed at [storefront] Olson Kundig, Wonderland: Shaking Up Reality invited visitors to take part in a month long media-making event. In collaborating with Reel Grrls, an innovator in multimedia and training for young women from diverse communities, [storefront] co-director Alan Maskin asked the question, “What can we do together that we can’t do alone?” Reel Grrls’ youth media-makers were encouraged to dream big and think about what they would like to offer their fellow Seattleites during the darkest of months. The result was Wonderland—a setting for film, and wintery events that included a snowflake-making workshop with artists, Celeste Cooning and Jeffry Mitchell. Visitors to the installation were invited to participate in the film-making process by choosing from miniature snow sets built by Reel Grrls’ participants, which was then projected inside a human-scaled snow globe as a background.
