Part of an emerging development at Deer Valley East Village, Marcella Lodge provides shared amenities and social gathering spaces for an active residential community. The private ski lodge joins other planned hospitality and recreation projects—including a new hotel with ski access and a golf course designed by Tiger Woods—in a larger Marcella Club network anchoring Deer Valley Resort’s 3,700-acre expansion.

Marcella Lodge creates a middle ground between the residential neighborhood and ski village, both a launching pad for adventure and a comfortable homebase to rest and unwind. Designed to foster a sense of immersion with the landscape, the lodge is organized across three distinct volumes with board-formed concrete bases that nestle into the topography. The main volume contains a series of gathering zones, recreation spaces, and seating areas. An upper-level lounge features a steel bridge bar that nods to the site’s mining legacy and frames wide prospect views to the Wasatch Mountains and Jordanelle Reservoir.

A boldly cantilevering volume with an indoor pool, hot tub, and fitness center frames widespread connections to the landscape, encouraging a flow of activity between indoor and outdoor zones. Below, set into the hillside, a lounge and locker room provide easy ski-in/ski-out access to nearby trail networks.

To underscore connections to the surrounding environment, interior program areas throughout the lodge spill onto exterior decks and terraces, providing various elevated perspectives of the landscape and ski terrain. The lodge architecture also frames a generous ski courtyard with fire pits and an outdoor hut tub, as well as a covered exterior gathering space with a large fireplace for four-seasons use.

Marcella Lodge adds functional and dynamic spaces to gather and play at Deer Valley East Village, while providing easy access to skiing and other outdoor activities. The design draws on core elements of mountain architecture—the ability to get outside and immerse yourself in the incredible landscape, as well as a comfortable place to return to after a long day of activity.
