Tiffany Miranda

Olson Kundig Speaker Series

On Monday, we continue our 2024 Speaker Series: Sorry, I Was On Mute…Joining us will be Tiffany Miranda—recording artist, DJ, producer, engineer + founder of Girls Make Beats, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating real-world opportunities for girls to break barriers in the music industry.

Tiffany started her career as a recording artist at age 15, appearing on shows like American Idol and X-Factor. After facing many challenges in a male-dominated industry, she found a sense of creative control by learning about the music production and audio engineering fields. She quickly noticed there were not a lot of women in these fields—nor was there a sense of support for women trying to break into these positions.

Despite often being the “only woman in the room,” Tiffany landed an in-house engineer role at a major studio and obtained her Avid certification. Since then, she has helmed her skills to become one of the most sought-after recording engineers and producers in the industry, working with heavy hitters like Lil Uzi Vert, French Montana, TI, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, and many more.

In an effort to position girls at the forefront of music technology, Tiffany founded Girls Make Beats in 2012. She has forged partnerships with industry titans like Apple, Spotify, Meta, and various major record labels to create unparalleled opportunities for the girls in the program—including an official remix for Janet Jackson, DJ’ing for Missy Elliot’s Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame event, engaging the girls with other icons such as Janelle Monae, Chloe x Halle, Tinashe, and Eve.

Tiffany’s work with GMB has been featured in media across the globe, including: Forbes, Billboard, GRAMMY.com, Good Morning America, and the Jennifer Hudson Show.

Every Monday, Olson Kundig starts the week with an all‑office meeting, and once a month this meeting is devoted to an outside guest speaker. The Olson Kundig Speaker Series was created by Alan Maskin over two decades ago with the goal of inspiring staff with presentations from people who work outside the realm of architecture. To date, more than 300 guests have come to speak in our offices. The forum is also available for internal speakers, who share completed project overviews, complex project details, and research findings, all with the aim of increasing our shared knowledge.

The 2024 theme of The Speaker Series is Sorry, I Was On Mute… Sorry, I Was On Mute… is an exploration of narratives that have otherwise been silenced, censored, and hidden from our cultural zeitgeist. These are stories from people who push boundaries and question norms in relentless pursuit of their passions, despite all systematic and social barriers at play. At its core, Sorry, I Was On Mute… is an examination—and celebration—of the human spirit in its most authentic form.
