Part of the magic of architecture is that it can buffer and secure us from the world around us…and at the same time it can invite us to engage in it, at an intimate level, with each and every one of our senses.

Christopher Butler

Principal | AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Throughout his career, Christopher Butler has elevated design solutions across a variety of scales and a wide range of project types. On each project, he draws inspiration from his clients and collaborators, the site’s natural and historic context, and his own background as a craftsman and artist to create places characterized by an intentional simplicity in plan and a straightforward expression of materiality. His work seeks to blend itself seamlessly into the lives of its occupants and users.

An accomplished architect with over 25 years of experience, Christopher joined Olson Kundig in 2015 and advanced to Principal in 2022. He has successfully led projects in the Pacific Northwest, across the country, and around the world. His project experience includes custom residences, museums, not-for-profits, mixed use developments, workplace and innovation centers, athletic facilities, hospitality developments, and golf- and ski-focused communities.

Christopher spent his childhood exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains in rural Virginia, which gave him a deep love of the outdoors, a respect for the forces of nature, and the unforgettable joy of forging his own path in “unmapped” territory. When not designing, he can be found sharing his passion for exploration and making with his wife and two young children.
