Olson Kundig Opens Chicago Office

2024/06/10

Olson Kundig is proud to announce the opening of an office in Chicago, considered the birthplace of modern American architecture. Bridging the firm’s original office location in Seattle with its footprint in New York City, Olson Kundig’s Chicago location will support the firm’s ongoing design and delivery efforts, with a focus on providing localized service to clients in the Midwest and beyond.

Located in Fulton Market, the Chicago office will serve as a new central hub for the firm, supporting a growing number of projects and clients across all building typologies, including residential, cultural, hospitality, civic, and commercial. Olson Kundig has worked in the region since 2004, with a range of active and built residential, commercial, and hospitality projects in its portfolio.

“Chicago is recognized around the world for its trailblazing design. For over 150 years, Chicago architects have carved out a reputation for big thinking and an ability to reimagine our built world,” said Tom Kundig, Principal / Owner & Founder of Olson Kundig. “We are honored to join this incredible community of designers, makers, and creatives.”

“For decades Olson Kundig has been deeply committed to excellence in design, enabled by profound relationships forged with our clients. We have always worked globally, and across building types. Expanding to Chicago, a vibrant city with a historic culture of design and urbanism, is an obvious choice for Olson Kundig,” says Kirsten Ring Murray, Principal / Owner of Olson Kundig. “We’re excited to weave the spirit of the Pacific Northwest into that rich history.”

Founded six decades ago, Olson Kundig operated as a single office in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square neighborhood until its 2022 expansion to New York. In recent years, Olson Kundig has grown to a firm of more than 350, with projects spanning six continents. The decision to establish a presence in Chicago reinforces Olson Kundig’s commitment to urban spaces, while continuing to ensure high quality design, delivery, and client services.
